Prescriber's Letter

So, I haven't posted in a few days. I have been waiting on my tech savvy husband to figure this whole "blog" thing for me and make sure that I have done it correctly. He is so great at things like that.

NP News
I was going through the mail today and ran across "Prescriber's Letter." It is a paid subscription. They give you little tid-bits of information, regarding new meds, myths/rumors, and overall health care. I love it, because my ADHD self cannot sit down and just read through a whole paper or magazine. It takes me forever, because I am so easily distracted. So, this just puts the important information and cuts out all of the extra info. It also covers all areas of practice. For example this months issue, discussed 2 new weight loss meds, fish oil tablets, birth control pills and their risks with DVT, the new medication for HIV prevention, and medications that interact with Warfarin. It also provides CMEs, patient handouts, and other helpful guides for the health care provider. What else can I say, it is wonderful. I recommend it to everyone.

This month, I was able to attend the AARP Pharmacology Update in Montgomery, Alabama. I went to the class 2 years ago and it was held in a small, medium size classroom. This year, there was such a great turnout! It was held in a large auditorium and I felt that most of the information I could use in my everyday practice. I was so happy to also sit next to several of my former colleagues. (Bentley, Jo, and BJ)

Next month, I will be attending a Cardiovascular specific conference. I will also obtain CEUs for this as well. It will be held in Birmingham near the Summit. OH NO, look out Shopping!! I am looking forward to the classes being cardio specific, something, I feel that I know a thing or two about.

In other news, when prescribing Brilinta 90 mg BID, make sure that you only provide the patient with ASA < or equal to 81 mg daily. Nothing more. It increases risk of bleeding. See PDR Drug Alerts.
